Kintra - Port Mourant 12 - 55.9% abv.

A funky and beautifully fruity nose. Mildly woody that gives off a slight scent of roasted bitter almonds. Pear and green apples are singing loud. Light vanilla and white chocolate notes. There is some citrus going on as well, although not lemon or lime, think more along the line of ripe grapefruit - rind and all. I want to write “finally”, but this wonderfully complex nose keeps on growing, however, I cannot move on from the nose without saying plastic. I just want to keep on sniffing....almost don’t need to taste it...almost... On the sip; here the 12 years on wood really comes forward, although not overpowering. Taste of fresh oak, without the charred or vanilla tones that are often present. The green apples and pears that were there on the nose carry over to the palate, now with the addition of tropical fruits. Ripe pineapple and mango. Orange peel bitter oils. Nutty characteristics as well. Hazelnut perhaps? And this is all coming in hot and spicy. 55.9% indeed! The finish is long and warm ending with the apple and pear and are present from the very start. This rum is exceptional. And all produced from one of the last surviving wooden pot stills! Find it. Buy it.
