Montebello Blanc - Rhum Agricole from Guadeloupe - 50% abv. It’s the start of the summer. It’s hot. You’re at the beach. The sun is beaming down on the seaweed that has washed up on the sand. You’ve all been there...and felt that smell. Baking salty seaweed! It jumps out of the glass with determination. This, followed by both fresh green and black peppercorns. Cardboard. Citrus peel. Spring flowers and honey. Finishing off with black salty licorice....and that’s just the nose! On the palate, the peppery notes are most dominant. Definitely green grass/hay. There is no doubt about what this is. AGRICOLE! The cardboard carries into the taste, and I kind of like it. Quite hot, but in a way that heats the mouth but doesn’t burn your whole chest. Very earthly and vegetal, almost like the taste that comes out of steamed banana leaves when you’re eating dim sum....finishing off with slight dry/bitterness. The taste a pressed slice of lime leaves in the last sip of melted iced left in the bottom of your glass. Quite thin on the mouth feel, which for this rum works quite well. The heat comes late. It feels good. Leaves you wanting...I like this very much. ....also was delicious in my ti-punch.
