Velier Clairin - Le Rocher - 46.5% abv. I’m smelling this already from a meter away! It smells like baked croissants with vanilla syrup. Creamy. Buttery. Yeasty. Sweet vanilla. This is even before approaching the glass! On closer inspection (throw back to the Simpsons McBain’s loafers) this Haitian juice now has clear green grassy notes. Hay. Licorice. Play-dough. Liquid cement. Fresh bay leaf. Raisins and dried grape skin. Green olive brine. Butter-milk. This is super funky and creamy and sour all at the same time. I’m really digging the nose! On the palate - roasted notes. Smokey. Mezcal-like. Charcoal. Burnt seaweed. Olive brine. Capers. Sour cream. Browned butter. Freshly cut green grass on a hot summer day after it’s been left for a few hours. Almost like a funky, salty, green smoothie made with dried kale, honey, greek yoghurt and french-vanilla ice cream...and then smoked. The finish is ever-lasting. Thick and oily. Like drinking melted butter drizzled over a Philadelphia cheese cake topped with vanilla sugar. Yet without the sweetness. This rum blows my mind. In my opinion, the best of the Clairin line. Also the newest and hardest to get your hands on.
Cocktail recommendation - this makes one killer Royal Bermuda!
